It was almost summer. It was coming up on Summer break. It was almost 3 PM. And it was Biology with the most boring teacher in the school! I fell asleep! The sun was pouring into my side of the classroom. The windows were open and a breeze was blowing through them. The teacher’s voice was hypnotically droning on and I fell asleep! And I got caught! “Mr. Powell! Can you tell…
When I was a boy, I remember seeing the Wizard of OZ for the first time on a color TV set. Needless to say, I was absolutely mesmerized by the wonder of the change from black and white to color, but I also remember being very much sympathetic to the Cowardly Lion when the group of seekers of help first encountered The Wizard. The effects of the head floating in the air…
One of the most meaningful Pro-Life demonstrations I ever saw was a graduating High School class deciding to put out the number of empty seats with them in the graduates’ area of all the children who would have been graduating High School with them had they not been aborted. It was a powerful, silent, but effective witness of what had been sacrificed by the rampant abortions in this society. We truly are…
“I saw the light, I saw the light. No more in darkness; no more in night. Now I’m so happy; no darkness in sight. Praise the Lord, I saw the light!” Now that’s a blast from the past. But it’s an old Gospel song I remember fondly from my youth. And it expresses an ancient desire of we humans: We don’t like the dark! Of course we do grow out of this,…
“Get out of the way!” My daughter in the back seat was yelling at the cars in front of us as we were on our way to her dance class. She was frustrated at the amount of traffic in front of us and reacted like she had seen “someone” else react in the same situation. And, no, I’m not going to say who that “someone” was because I have a right not…
I remember as a boy dreading recess at school. You see, I was a bit of a bookworm and not very athletic, and so when it came to be picked for teams, I was usually the kid who got picked last. Ugh! I hated that. It was embarrassing and it made me feel like a loser! Of course, when report card time came, all the jocks wished they were me! We humans…
I stood line line for what seemed like hours, but my friends and I REALLY wanted tickets to this concert. I mean we really did! We wanted them so bad that standing outside for hours, missing other events, and even getting a little hungry didn’t stop us from doing what we had to do to get those tickets! And we did and we loved the show! It really is amazing what price…
Thresholds are funny things. American businessman Joseph B. Wirthlin once said “Those who stand at the threshold of life always waiting for the right time to change are like the man who stands at the bank of a river waiting for the water to pass so he can cross on dry land.” Thresholds mark places where we are moving from one place to another. Now think about a threshold with a door!…
NASA recently released the largest picture ever taken. It’s made up of 411 snapshots from the Hubble telescope of our nearest neighbor, the Andromeda galaxy. The picture is 1.5 billion pixels and takes 4.3 gigs of disk space to load. It’s big. But as large as the picture is, the scene it shows is even more incredible. It shows over 100 million stars and peers 40,000 light years away from us. Breathtaking! Fascinating…
