Fr Barnabas Powell, host of Faith Encouraged Live will lead a retreat in Chicago on October 10.
A former Pentecostal pastor that made the journey to Orthodoxy after years of study and struggle, Fr. Barnabas insists that it was his Pentecostal background that prepared him for the Orthodox Church. The principles and wisdom of the Orthodox Faith strengthen community and family, and communicating this wisdom well is at the heart of Father Barnabas’ speaking ministry. It’s why he regularly ends his devotionals with the phrase, “Be Orthodox on Purpose.”
His “Orthodox on Purpose” Facebook page and his Twitter feed are among the growing Orthodox presence on social media. Fr. Barnabas has traveled the country speaking in parishes about parish renewal, outreach to neighbors, spiritual maturity, and purposeful practice of the Faith in everyday life. His question to parishes all across the country is, “Why don’t your neighbors walk to your church on Sunday morning?”
Fr Barnabas has a Bachelor degree in Theology from Toccoa Falls College and a Master in Divinity from Holy Cross School of Theology. He was ordained to the Holy Holy Priesthood by Metropolitan ALEXIOS in March 2010. He is married to Presbytera Connie (Demas) Powell, and they have two daughters, Alexandra and Katherine. He is currently the parish priest at SS Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church in Cumming, GA, and is the author of the devotional Faith Encouraged Daily.
