This is a straight-up, bright and shiny, honest request for your financial support. It’s December. You could turn 360 degrees slowly and see a request for donations on every one of the 360 points of view. We know. We know you work hard, and we know you have choices. So here’s our list of 4 big reasons why we believe Ancient Faith Radio is a good place for your year-end donation.
1. We don’t pay our podcasters.
More than 70 good-hearted, strong-minded human beings record podcasts that air on Ancient Faith Radio, and we don’t pay them a red cent. We can’t. We run a little station with a mighty heart, and we produce content the big stations would be proud of on a budget that would make the big stations faint dead away. We are proud of squeezing every penny till it sings soprano, but there’s a special class of gratitude we keep for the dedicated people who care enough about Orthodox Christianity, evangelism, education, and spiritual companionship to volunteer their time, their hearts, and their brains to creating the podcasts you count on hearing on Ancient Faith Radio. Your donations pay for our station. You are the person who helps their voices be heard around the world.
2. We bring church where it isn’t.
Listening to the radio is not a substitute for attending church. It can’t be. But it’s a healing presence when church is not available. A substantial percentage of our listeners do not live in an Orthodox country. Ancient Faith Radio is heard in over 170 countries around the world. You can count the number of Orthodox countries on your fingers. Not only that, but in the United States, Canada, and elsewhere, many Orthodox Christians live hours away from the closest Orthodox parish. Add to that the realities of an aging population, and you can count up the people who aren’t always well enough to get out on Sunday morning. Those are serious obstacles to a life of worship, and they are also causes of real loneliness. But because of Ancient Faith Radio, the songs and prayers of Orthodox liturgy can come home to listeners anywhere the internet can reach. We broadcast Divine Liturgy live every Sunday morning, and we also travel to Orthodox events around the United States (and sometimes overseas!) to record speakers and teachers for those who aren’t able to hear them in person. Your donations pay for our equipment and our broadcasting capabilities. You are the person who brings church home.
3. People ask us questions.
All year long, Ancient Faith Radio receives phone calls, emails, Facebook messages, and letters from people all over the world. You’d be amazed what people say to us. They ask us about the faith, they thank us for something they loved, they tell us we’ve got it all wrong, they ask for prayers or for help finding a parish. Sometimes, they just want to know there’s another human being in the world who cares about the same things they care about. We treasure every single one of these communications. In fact, it’s becoming a tradition around the station, if you’re having a bad day, to read the Listener Comments section of our website. It’s a powerful reminder that this work matters, always.
4. The silence would be unbearable.
There are days when we realize what a small army we are for the large and important battle we are waging. There aren’t ten other Orthodox radio stations that could take up the banner if Ancient Faith Radio fell. An extensive community of priests, teachers, writers, families, seekers, and friends has grown up around us, Glory to God, and our connections to each other are essential to the support of more Orthodox efforts than you may be aware. Ancient Faith Radio is often the first Orthodox voice someone hears on their way into the Orthodox Church. Ancient Faith Radio is a major tool for all the other Orthodox ministries and agencies who need to get the word out on their efforts. Ancient Faith Radio is the “friendly voice behind enemy lines” for thousands of people who are struggling hard to hold onto faith and hope in circumstances that don’t support either. All of us at the station love our work, and all of us are mortal. We want to see this work grow and prosper so that it can go on and on, after we are gone, after our children and grandchildren are gone. We are 100% listener-supported. You keep us on the air, now and in the future. You make sure the wonderful voices, songs, and prayers broadcasting from our station will not go down into silence.
