Ancient Faith Speakers Near You in Fall 2018

Ancient Faith Ministries is on the road! Our authors, podcasters, and bloggers continue to travel around the country, speaking at parishes, schools, and events. We hope you’ll join us as we participate in the life of the Church!

Here’s a list of events you can attend during the remainder of this year, 2018! You’ll see the name of a podcaster, author, or blogger, and the date, title, and location of the events they’ll be leading or attending. Links are included where available, and all of the events listed are opened to the public – that means you! The list is alphabetical by last name. If you’re not sure why a name’s familiar, just click it to learn more about that person.

What’s Happening?

Richard BarrettRichard Barrett will be giving the pre-concert lectures for Cappella Romana’s “Heaven and Earth: A New Creation” concerts on October 12-14 in Seattle and Portland. Elissa BjeletichElissa Bjeletich will be speaking at the Orthodox Christian Fellowship YES Day on October 27 in Austin, TX. This event is open to all college students and young adults; register online here: yesnorthamerica.org. On November 15-18, Elissa Bjeletich will be a featured speaker at the Ancient Faith Women’s Retreat at Antiochian Village in Bolivar, PA. (This retreat is almost sold out; contact Melinda Johnson at email hidden; JavaScript is required for information.) Elissa will be leading a Retreat for the Nativity Lent on December 1 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Virginia Beach, VA. Looking ahead, Elissa will lead a retreat on February 1-2 at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago, IL.

 

Angela Doll CarlsonAngela Doll Carlson will be a featured speaker at the Ancient Faith Women’s Retreat on November 15-18 at Antiochian Village. Her session topic is “Hearts and Minds and Bodies.” Look for Angela’s new book, The Wilderness Journal, releasing in November of this year!

 

 

Steve ChristoforouSteven Christoforou will be speaking at Doxacon on November 2-3 at St Sophia Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, DC. His talk is titled: Where Hope Meets Despair. “Space, as many a brave captain has reminded us, is the final frontier. And, like the American Frontier before it, space offers a blank canvas upon which humans project both their most idealistic dreams and nihilistic nightmares. In this talk, we’ll dig into some well-known stories set against the backdrop of space and explore the hope and despair that they express.”​

 

Fr. Andrew Stephen DamickFr. Andrew Stephen Damick will be speaking at the Ukrainian Orthodox League retreat on October 13 at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Wilmington, DE.

 

 

Fr. Lawrence Farley will speak on “Gender in Genesis” on October 16, as the first speaker in the St. Tikhon Orthodox Theological Seminary Fall Lecture Series. More information is available here.

 

 

Fr. Stephen FreemanFr. Stephen Freeman is the Keynote Speaker on October 5-7 in Atlanta, GA. He will also speak at a retreat on October 19-20 at Christ the Savior Cathedral in Miami, FL.

 

 

Christian GonzalezChristian Gonzalez and Steven Christoforou are leading BeeTreats at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Akron, OH (October 27) and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Orlando, FL (November 17).

 

 

Michael HaldasMichael Haldas will be speaking on Saturday, November 17 from 2-4 PM at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Upper Darby, PA. This talk is called “Sacramentality in the Lord of the Rings,” and Michael’s book, Echoes of Truth: Christianity in the Lord of the Rings will be available for signing. The event is free and open to the public. Michael will have a book table for Echoes of Truth: Christianity in the Lord of the Rings at Doxacon at St. Sophia’s in Washington, DC on November 2-3. Doxacon is open to the public, with an admission fee.

 

Melinda JohnsonMelinda Johnson is leading and speaking at the first-ever Ancient Faith Women’s Retreat on November 15-18 at Antiochain Village. Her session topic is “You and Your Saint.”

 

 

Bill MarianesBill Marianes will be a panelist on October 13 at the Orthodox Christian Attorneys Network gathering during the Christian Legal Society conference. On October 23-25, he will be the principal presenter in Canada at the Clergy Laity gathering of the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada. On November 2-4, he will be leading the strategic planning retreat for the Metropolis of Chicago.

 

John MaddexJohn Maddex, our CEO, will be the keynote address for Orthodox Education Day at St. Vladimir’ Orthodox Theological Seminary on October 6. More information is available here.

 

 

Melissa NaaskoMelissa Naasko will be a featured speaker at the Ancient Faith Women’s Retreat on November 15-18 at Antiochian Village. Her session topic is “Finding Peace While Looking for Dinner.”

 

 

Barnabas PowellFr. Barnabas Powell will be speaking on October 12-13 at the Family Retreat at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Wilmington, NC. He is also speaking on December 27-30 at Orthodox Christian Fellowship College Conference Midwest. More information is available here

 

 

Nicole RoccasNicole Roccas is speaking at Engaging Orthodoxy on October 6 at Northpark University (Chicago area). This even is open to the public. More information is available here. Nicole is also the keynote speaker at the Ancient Faith Women’s Retreat on November 15-18 at Antiochian Village. Her talk is entitled “Gathering Lost Crumbs.”

 

Christine Rogers, author of the upcoming book Spyridon’s Shoes, will be speaking at a retreat in Nyeri, Kenya on Nov 22-25. OCMC Clergy Wives Retreat. Look for Christine’s book in the spring of 2019!

Melinda Johnson is an Orthodox Christian, wife, mama, writer, and the author of Letters to Saint Lydia (AFP, 2010), The Other Side of the Bonfire (LSP, 2012), and is hard at work on another book project. Melinda has a Master’s in English Literature because she loved taking literature classes so much she couldn’t stop doing it. When she is not seeing “heaven in a wildflower,” Melinda enjoys writing for children, walking and talking, and knitting. She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest.
